Pender Island is home to 2400 year-round residents, and, like most Gulf Islands, the number triples over the summer months. Visitors come for the lively arts scene as well as for hiking, boating and kayak adventures.Tru Value Foods has been a Pender mainstay since 1994, when Wayne Verch and Jerry Rainer opened on North Pender. From the beginning the store built its inventory on customers’ feedback and requests, an approach still welcomed by owner/manager Mike Gray.

In August 2000 the store moved to its present location on Bedwell Harbour Road. The new store, designed with both islanders and visitors in mind, offers a spacious, inviting layout. Local produce has never been more abundant and Gulf Island lamb continues to be a bestseller in the meat department.

We’re especially proud of the Island Deli, a corner of the store that sees line-ups every Wednesday as customers get line up for Tracy’s famous in-store meat loaf. Any time of day the Deli’s café seating affords a great perch for people-watching and enjoying a java or a treat from the bakery.
