Golden Milk or Turmeric Tea is a delicious way to boost your immune system and reduce inflammation. Studies with mice and rats have shown that curcumin, the plant compound that gives turmeric its bright yellow-orange colour, can even help prevent depression, reverse liver damage, and prevent and treat Alzheimer’s. This warming recipe is a lovely addition to your nightly wind down ritual, but tasty all day long! And with the addition of coconut oil and honey or maple syrup, there’s enough good fat and sweetness to satisfy that mid-afternoon snack attack!

INGREDIENTS

2 cups milk of choice (dairy or alternative)
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp solid organic coconut oil
½ tsp cinnamon powder
pinch of ground black pepper (don’t skip this, here’s why)
¼ tsp ginger powder or small amount of grated fresh ginger
1 tsp honey or maple syrup or to taste
splash of rose water (optional, but lovely)

METHOD

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend well to combine. The mixture should be nice and frothy. Heat in saucepan until just before boiling, stirring constantly. Sprinkle with ground nutmeg and enjoy!

* Note: turmeric stains. A lot. So, keep that in mind when using it in your blender. Clean up spills immediately.
